Red Cross seeks big rigs for hurricane relief effort
08/20/2004 - 4:40:14 pm
The organization needs approximately 15 trucks with drop reefers and 15 trucks with drop dry boxes. Amanda Lepof of the in-kind donations unit of the Red Cross says her organization is looking for trailers that can be dropped anywhere from one day up to six weeks, although many would need to be dropped for just one week.
The Red Cross needs freight run on the following routes:
- Several loads from the Red Cross warehouse in Sarasota, FL, to individual drop sites at other nearby locations;
- One load from a warehouse in Michigan to Florida; and
- One load from Miami to Sarasota.
Lephof says truckers should e-mail her at email@example.com if they can help. Because of the volume of contacts, Lephof says the organization prefers e-mail contacts and will be able to respond faster to those messages. If truckers do not have e-mail access, they can call (202) 303-4596.
Truckers can also help by donating money to the effort. To donate, call the Red Cross at 1-800-HELP NOW.
