Judge in Texas trailer deaths re-trial keeps jury away from truck

federal judge Monday in Houston, TX, rejected a prosecution proposal that the jury in the Tyrone Williams re-trial be allowed to visit his tractor-trailer.

The judge cited unspecified security concerns.

According to the Houston Chronicle, prosecutors hoped the visit would convince jurors that Williams should have been able to hear illegal immigrants screaming and pounding on the walls of his trailer.

Williams faces a possible death sentence for his role in a botched smuggling operation three years ago, in which 19 people died of heat or suffocation while locked inside the trailer of his truck.
