According to The Associated Press, New York City police have added that to their checklist on some inspections, to detect if there are traces of explosive material on the tires.

The city’s police also have another 1,000 radiation detectors on order, in addition to the 1,000 that are already deployed to detect dirty bombs or other radioactive material, The AP reported.

NYPD is also putting new emphasis on screening shipments of chlorine, following a series of recent attacks in Iraq in which explosives combined with chlorine were used.
