Police in Billings, MT, are asking for the public’s help after a truckload of guns and sporting goods were stolen last month. On Aug. 3, someone broke into the trailer of a truck parked at a Con-Way Freight lot in downtown Billings and took 133 firearms and sporting goods equipment. It was headed to MT Sports in Billings.
Billings Police Sgt. Kevin Iffland told Land Line Now on Thursday, Sept. 16, that the guns – most of which are handguns – were removed from the trailer.
“The theft of those 133 firearms means criminals can cause some harm to innocent victims, so the Billings Police Department and the ATF are very concerned about that,” Iffland said.
Investigators haven’t yet identified suspects, Iffland said.
Police and agents with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms have offered a $10,000 reward for information in the case.
MT Sports is a federally licensed firearms seller, Iffland said.
“ATF and Billings Police are following up on some leads, but there is nothing concrete at this time,” Iffland said.
Anyone with information about the crime is encouraged to contact the Billings Police Department at 406-657-8200.
