Hundreds apply for trucking jobs in Georgia
01/26/2004 - 3:04:07 pm

About 352 candidates applied last week in an ongoing effort to fill 400 jobs being offered in DeKalb County, GA, by Green Bay, WI-based Schneider National Inc., The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

The candidates also attended one of five orientation sessions offered by Schneider, even though they aren`t required to attend before applying. Schneider plans to open an operations center Feb. 16 on 25 acres off Constitution Road in southwest DeKalb.

A company flier being picked up by candidates said inexperienced drivers could earn $32,500 to $36,500 in their first year and experienced drivers could earn $42,500 to $51,500 per year. It said the company would pay for commercial driver`s license training for qualified candidates.

Meanwhile, about 200 more résumés and applications were turned in for administrative positions with the Schneider operations center.

Ken Wade, Southeast regional recruiting manager for Schneider, said the company would pick candidates from the job applications submitted. He said they would be called in four days, then hired over the phone if they were approved. Wade said the company likes to do face-to-face interviews, but did not do them this time because of the high number of applicants.
