Two suspects have been arrested following the fatal shootings of two employees at a Des Moines, IA- based trucking company, LCS Logistics.According to the Des Moines Police Department’s release, officers received a 911 call around 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 17. Officers who responded to the scene found two males dead – Serif Hindic, 30, and Robert Smoot, 49, who both worked at LCS Logistics.
The suspect, Ronald J. Hawkinson, 39, was charged with two counts of first degree murder, after allegedly shooting the two men. He was later apprehended in Winterset, IA, about 30 miles away, and was transported back to Des Moines. Hawkinson’s girlfriend, Rhonda Plew, 41, has been charged with “accessory after the fact.”
Des Moines Police Sgt. Cindy Donahue told Land Line on Friday that Hawkinson at one time worked at LCS Logistics.
“From what I gathered, he’s a disgruntled employee and that’s the relationship (between Hawkinson and the two victims),” Donahue said.
Donahue said that LCS Logistics subleased space from Seibert Trucking, a small trucking company in Des Moines that has nine trucks.
According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s SAFER website, LCS Logistics has five trucks and five drivers. The agency lists that LCS received its broker authority in October of 2011, and opened its trucking company in March 2012.
FMCSA lists that of the three inspections completed since the company was opened, all three trucks were put out of service for violations.
