Trucker Buddy and FedEx to visit Summit Baptist Academy January 4th
When Ruth Jaroe isn`t on the road, delivering freight for FedEx Custom Critical, she spends a few minutes corresponding with a fifth grade class in Clarks Summit, PA. Each week, as a member of the Trucker Buddy (http://www.truckerbuddy.org) program, Ruth corresponds with Rachel Roberts` class at Summit Baptist Academy, sharing her experiences from the highway. In return, the children write letters to her, asking her about her truck, the loads she hauls and the things she sees along the highway.
Ruth will be visiting her Trucker Buddy class on January 4th, and would like to invite you to join her as she and three other FedEx drivers show the students their rigs and talk to them about safety, the importance of the trucking industry, and their lives on the road.
Joining Ruth will be Bernard Llave, a FedEx Express driver from Chula Vista, CA; Cris Stout from Huntertown, IN, who hauls for FedEx Freight and Michael Wiest, an owner-operator leased to FedEx Ground in Moon Township, PA. All four drivers have adopted classes through Trucker Buddy International, a pen-pal program which matches drivers with elementary classrooms. They are a part of a world wide organization that has been matching drivers with schools since 1993. Nearly 4,000 drivers correspond with elementary classes on a weekly basis.
This class visit will bring four separate FedEx (http://www.FedEx.com) carrier divisions to one class event, and will highlight the relationship these drivers have in enhancing children`s educational experiences through Trucker Buddy International.
The day will begin at 9:00 am in the auditorium, where the drivers will be introduced to the students, teachers and parents and will answer questions and talk about their careers. Please join us and watch the children experience the trucking industry as they meet the drivers and get an inside view of all four FedEx trucks.
